31 weeks, 4 day pic and other odds & ends

The two cloth diapers that I ordered on August 23rd finally came in the mail today (over a month later)!  Look at how cute they are!  I will definitely be ordering more but just wanted to see what kind of material they were made out of before making a big commitment.  They are made of soft fleece and have an insert in them for removal for washing.  I think they are super cute!!  (They are the same size; they just look different because they are snapped differently.  The bottom would be a smaller size and the top would be a larger size.)

I went shopping for a few odds and ends the other day and got another changing pad cover (the exact same one as before), a few more sleep and plays, and another blanket sleeper.  We will be getting the travel system very soon because we plan on taking it to Babies’r’Us on October 15th when the firefighters will be there to check that it is installed correctly.

Here’s another two pictures of me taken on Wednesday, Sept 29th.  I am 31 weeks, 4 days here.
We also had our breastfeeding class on Wednesday, Sept 29th.  We learned a few tips (I’ve pretty much read all of them before but Dan hadn’t had the chance to) but it is also a relief to know that a lactation consultant comes around to our room at our hospital as often as you need her.  Our next class is the Breathing & Relaxation class on Tuesday, Oct 5th and our next ultrasound is on Monday, Oct 4th.

Classes

So Saturday, September 18 was our childbirth class from 9:30-5:30pm. It ended up getting out closer to 3:30 and since we had put Caesar in the kennel that weekend, we decided to spend the evening in St. Augustine. The class itself was informative, though I have read plenty about that information all during my pregnancy. I was glad Dan got to hear some of that information though because he hasn’t been able to read as much as I have. One thing we decided from that class though was that I need more help in the relaxation department regarding labor and delivery. So we signed up for a breathing and relaxation class which will be on October 5. I looked for a hypnobabies course but they don’t offer that in Jacksonville, which is disappointing because I thought that could help. I also looked into Lamaze and the Bradley Method classes but that wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. So we went to the library and got a few books which I hope will help me. Dan has quite a job ahead of him trying to keep me calm!

The other classes we have are the breastfeeding class on Wednesday, September 29 and an infant/child CPR class on October 9, so we will be busy in the next few weeks.

Yesterday night the baby had the hiccups, which is such a weird feeling, and of course it was right as I was trying to fall asleep! Within a few minutes though they must have passed or I just fell asleep!

30 week appointment and shopping!

So I passed my gestational diabetes test! I figured once they hadn’t called me on Monday that I was in the clear but was still worried until we discussed it with the doctor on Wednesday who said I passed with flying colors. Because of an emergency c-section, we had to wait for this doctor (a new one we hadn’t met yet) for 1 ½ hours, so that wasn’t fun. There are only four doctors in this practice and any one could deliver our baby so we wanted to meet her once before the time came in case she was on duty. Everything was normal with this visit and the next time they see me is October 4 (at 32 weeks) for our last ultrasound unless there are complications. Hopefully then they can verify it’s a girl because we have already bought so many little girl things! And then at 36 weeks we start to go every week to be seen.

We went shopping yesterday and bought the mattress, so her room is completely ready now! We also bought other things pictured below (waterproof crib mattress pad, another boppy pillow cover, socks, crib sheets, burp cloths, little washcloths with a star toy, blanket sleepers, swaddlemes, a changing pad cover, and our first pack of diapers (we’re using seventh generation disposables until we get used to cloth diapers since we plan on exclusively using cloth eventually). Still need a few more things but if she came early we’d be ready for her! [Sorry for things still being in packages in the photos. I would take them out and wash them but if she's not a girl, we'll be returning them! That's why I want another ultrasound to confirm! :) ]

New picture

This is a picture taken on Sept 12. I was 29 weeks 1 day here. Even the jersey is getting a little tight though. I do have a maternity Steelers shirt but I won't be able to wear that for long either! I must be bigger than I thought! :)

Glucose test and hospital orientation

Well, I had my 3 hour glucose test yesterday. I went in at 7:45am and then the first blood draw was at 8am. I then drank the liquid, which wasn’t very bad actually. It tasted just like flat pop! Then the next three blood draws were every hour for the next three hours. My first three blood draws were great since I had a great nurse. However, she went home before my last one was done and the last one was painful because I don’t think the girl knew what she was doing. Anyway, I’m glad that’s over with!

I don’t get the results back for my glucose test for at least 24-48 hours after the test and apparently no news is good news. My doctor’s office said they would only call if I had it. I haven’t heard anything yet but we have time, unfortunately. Either way, my doctor’s office will let me know at my next appt on Wednesday so I’m hoping for the best. I’m kinda surprised they have me going every two weeks already but I will never turn down an offer to hear the heartbeat!!! I’m not sure when my next ultrasound is…I think my doctor mentioned it being at 32 weeks, so another 3 weeks or so.

We also had our hospital orientation this past Wednesday, the 8th. It was nice to tour the facility and I was happy to know you labor, deliver, and recover (only for about 2 hours though) in one room. Then you get moved to another floor (courtesy of a private elevator thankfully!) where you stay for the rest of your stay. I was a little worried because I heard other hospitals make you labor in one room and deliver in another and I wasn’t sure what this hospital was like. However, it is the only Baptist Hospital (which my doctor is through) in Jacksonville with a NICU, which I thought was weird. I’m happy to have a NICU just in case! Not to mention, I have been going to this doctor since we’ve been down here and wouldn’t dream of switching now. Most recovery rooms are pretty spacious although there are a few that are tight but we’ll make do with what we have. Besides, it possibly could be only Dan and me there (and baby girl, of course) and we wouldn’t need much room anyway if that’s the case.

Time sure does fly though…it is so scary! Thank God I have at least two months! I am making sure I am doing my kick counts though but I will be relieved when I finally get to hold her in my arms (no matter how much I dread the labor and delivery part)! But whenever I start to really worry about her not moving, it seems she always gives me a good, swift kick and I feel immediately better. She’s a little stinker though when I want to go to bed! Her most active time is between 9:30-11pm, right when I want to go to sleep. I dread getting up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because as soon as I start to move, she starts her kicks! I really can’t complain though…I’d rather be feeling them than not! :)

Dr. appt and new picture

My last appointment was yesterday and from now on I will be having an appointment every two weeks (which is standard after 28 weeks, apparently). At this appointment, I had my one hour gestational diabetes test. Unfortunately, I did not pass it! The cutoff is 140 and I was a 147. So now I have an appointment on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:45 am for the three hour test. I really hope I pass this one since it would be no fun to have gestational diabetes for the rest of the pregnancy!

Here’s a picture we took yesterday of me before the appointment. I am 27 weeks, 4 days here.

We’re also looking forward to starting our classes this month. Hospital orientation is next Wednesday, September 8. Then on Saturday, September 18, we have our childbirth class from 10-6pm. We wanted to split it up into the three days but that was impossible with Dan’s schedule. We also have a breastfeeding class on September 29 and an infant/child CPR class on October 9, so we are looking forward to all of those! It’s going to be a busy month!
